Job Summary

Our client is a Managed Services Provider based in Weybridge; they are seeking a Senior Network Engineer.  You will be an experienced Cisco certified Senior Network Engineer qualified to at least CCNP level, with experience in the design, development and management of an ISP network covering the company’s data centres, as well as additional PoPs in London and Kent.

 

You will have a variety of experiences with Cisco routing and switching equipment utilising IOS, IOS-XE and IOS-XR, be managing a core network based on ASR9000 series routers, and a variety of Cisco switching platforms.

 

Your experience will also enable you to provide advice and guidance for building customer solutions as required. You will provide coaching and mentoring to more junior members within the team in order to help their knowledge and progression and act as an escalation point for your team.

 

You will have excellent written English and administration skills, show attention to detail, with the ability to work under pressure, be well organised and self-motivated. The successful candidate will be good at troubleshooting and fault finding, being able to think on their feet and identify current/potential issues.

Job Description

  • Ensure the continued availability and reliability of all network services
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for 4D and client managed networks
  • Provide out of hours, on-call support as part of a rota for network related escalations from the 1st and 2nd line engineers
  • Design and administer network infrastructure as well as client bespoke network and security solutions
  • Monitor and test network performance

-          Work with current monitoring tools to provide network performance statistics and reports

  • Coordinate and manage change projects within the team

-          Liaise with internal and external clients, network vendors and service providers

  • Perform preventative maintenance and anticipate solutions to potential problems
  • Manage the pre-provisioning of infrastructure equipment
  • Experience of Change and Problem management through to resolutions
  • Create appropriate documentation to ensure supportability of configured services
  • Ensuring all technical designs meet security and compliance standards

Required Skills

  • Five years’ experience in a network engineering role within a service provider environment
  • Cisco Certified (CCNP RS / CCNP SP or CCIE SP / CCIE R&S)
  • Strong experience of WAN and LAN environments utilising Cisco routers / switches
  • Advanced knowledge of routing protocols including BGP and OSPF
  • Advanced knowledge of MPLS, VPLS, RSVP and traffic engineering
  • Experience with network management tools such as Nagios, Splunk, Cacti and NTop
  • User level experience with Linux based operating systems
  • Outstanding customer facing skills
  • Excellent infrastructure support experience
  • Proven troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

 This is a full-time role, with some flexibility and requires you to be part of an on-call rotation. There may be occasional travel to other offices and data centres as and when needed
