Madalyn Parker, an American woman, breaks the stigma by taking a leave to focus on her mental health and got appreciated by the CEO of her company.

It’s rather simple to ask for a leave from work when you are physically unwell. But what about the time when you are mentally unwell?

You may find it difficult to explain to your boss that you are feeling drained emotionally and want to take the day off to just to charge up. Talking about mental health is still a challenge in many offices, not only in India but across the globe.

Madalyn Parker, an American woman, was brave enough to break the stigma. Parker sent an official e-mail to her team on June 30 to take leave in order to focus on her mental health.

To her surprise, Parker received a personal acknowledgement from the CEO, affirming her leave. Ben Congleton was pleased that Parker was setting a good example by breaking the stigma and talking about taking sick leave to address her mental health.

Congleton also signalled that such a practice should be continued in their office.

She shared the screenshot of her boss’ response with a caption saying, “When the CEO responds to your out of the office email about taking sick leave for mental health and reaffirms your decision”.

Her brave act has got an overwhelming response on Twitter and her post was re-tweeted by more than 9000 users and over 31,000 people liked it.
